He entered the Lviv University in 1919 and received his doctorate in 1923. He was executed by the Gestapo, probably in October 1943. <br> <br> Most of his mathematical work belongs to the field of functional and non-linear analysis. Schauder is best known for the Schauder fixed point theorem which is a major tool to prove the existence of solutions in various problems, the Schauder bases and the Leray-Schauder principle, a way to establish solutions of partial differential equations from a priori estimates. <br> <hr> <h2> Program of the Schauder Meeting</h2> <b> Friday</b>, September 25, 2009: <br> &nbsp;&nbsp;930-1000 Opening Ceremony<br> 1000-1050 <b> Yaroslav Prytula</b> (Lviv), <i> Juliusz Schauder: details of biography</i><br> 1100-1150 <b> S.Domoradzki, M.Zarichnyi</b> (Rzesz&oacute;w - Lviv), <i>Juliusz Schauder in the light of selected archive matherials</i><br> 1200-1250 <b> Anatoly Plichko</b> (Krak&oacute;w), <i>Schauder bases in Banach space theory</i><br> 1300-1500 Lunch<br> 1500-1550 <b> Robert Cauty</b> (Paris), <i> Fixed points of compact maps in locally equiconnected spaces</i><br> 1600-1650 <b> Volodymyr Maslyuchenko</b> (Chernivtsi), <i>Approximations of jointly and separately continuous functions</i><br> 1700-1750 <b> Lech G&oacute;rniewicz</b> (Toru&#324;), <i>TBA</i><br> 1800-1850 <i>TBA</i><br> 1900-2100 Fourchet<br> <br> <b>Saturday</b>, September 26, 2009: Excursion and Culture Program. <hr> <b>Registration Fee: 50 &euro;</b>.
