APATITE IN GEOLOGICAL FORMATIONS OF UKRAINE
The data on prevalence, forms of display, morphology, chemical composition, structure, physical properties and genesis of apatite in rocks of Ukraine are adduced. Apatite is submitted by many varieties (fluor-apatite, fluorhydroxylapatite, carbonate-apatite, phosphorite etc.). It is found out in all mineralogical provinces, and its deposits and oremanifestations are known in the Ukrainian Shield, Volyn’-Podolian Platform, Carpathians, Peri-Black Sea and Dnieper-Donetsk Depressions and Donbas region. As accessory mineral, apatite is in the composition almost of all types of magmatic, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. Fluor-apatite is most widespread. Nodular phosphorites prevail in sedimentary rocks; apatite is represented in them by fluor-carbonate-apatite – kurskite.

The results of the detailed geological-genetic, mineral-physical and thermobarogeochemical investigations of the Saulyak deposit ores have been presented. During five stages of the mineralization process five mineral complexes (pyrrhotite-quartz, tourmaline-
quartz, pyrite-quartz, gold-polysulphide, quartz-carbonate) have been formed. Temperature interval of the productive mineralization on the base of fluid inclusions homogenization is about 335–90°C. At the same time predominant part of gold has been formed
under T = 280–120°C, P = 145–80 MPa; density of the productive carbon-aqueous fluids – 0,815–0,598 gr/cm3. Gold deposition within Saulyak deposit have own peculiarities based on the repeated metal sedimentation during productive fluids portion activity. At the same time four heteroaged gold generations have been determined in Saulyak deposit.

The sequence of fluorite, barite and quartz formation in units of veins of the Ìuzhiyeve deposit was determined with the help of the cathodoluminescence analysis. Fluid inclusions microthermometry indicates that minerals in the quarts veins formed from low salinity (0–12.5 eq. wt. % NaCl) fluid at temperatures between 170–230?C. It is proved, that formation of fluorite and barite in quartz veins was preceded with formation of the silica gel.

MINERAL COMPOSITION AND FEATURES OF FORMATION
OF SMECTITE-CHLORITE AGGREGATES FROM AMYGDULES
OF THE VOLYNIAN VENDIAN BASALTS

E-mail: mineral@franko.lviv.ua
Basaltic flows of Volynian series have been metamorphosed under the sub-greenschist facies conditions. Clay minerals (chlorite, smectite), zeolites, native copper, calcite and quartz replace the most unstable rock components (obsidian and palagonite). X-ray
diffraction, electron diffraction and optical studies gave the possibility to identify, that mineral composition of clays is heterogeneous but corresponds mainly to mixed-layer smectites-chlorite aggregates. Transitions between these minerals and their quantitative ratio in amygdules are unstable; they can change in flows and in every one amygdule. Smectite is replaced by chlorite. Recrystallization can occurs in the direction from periphery to centre of amygdule and in the opposite direction. This process depends on the character of fluid-dynamical conditions.
Key words: palagonite, smectite-chlorite aggregates, mixed-layer silicates, amygdule, basalt, Volynian region.

Syngenite from the leached zone of Precarpathians potash salts deposits and its transformations during heating on the basis of the X-ray and thermal analysis has been investigated. It is found out that crystallization water starts to allocate from the mineral at
220°Ñ; the crystal structure is kept to 250°Ñ. The further heating of syngenite up to 300, 400°Ñ results in destruction of its structure and in formation of the products of its disintegration – gorgeyite and arcanite.

Authigenous talc from Zechstein (Upper Permian) Werra and Stassfurt anhydrites of Western Poland has been formed in two ways: syndepositional-early diagenetic (forming beds) and diagenetic (occurring in veins). In the first case the source of magnesium were brines of evaporite basin, in the second one – buried sedimentary brines moved into neighbouring strata, where they were enriched in some dissolved elements. Occurrence of talc in evaporites of different regions predominantly is contemporary with the periods of sulphate-rich type of seawater. Such a coincidence is non-accidental as seawater of sulphate-rich type is characterized by a higher content of magnesium.

FACING STONE OF THE KOLA PENINSULA,
ITS ORNAMENTAL PROPERTIES AND SERVICE LIFE
A brief survey of research carried out into the facing stone of the Kola Peninsula is presented. The complex indices of decorativeness, service life and marketability were determined by the method of expert qualimetry. Principal results of these indices study are presented. It is suggested that the slump in the facing stone industry can be overcome through new investment and involvement in production of untraditional, different-colour rocks, which will allow to update the equipment, reduce the stone quarrying and machining wastes and the resulting technogenic load on the environment.
