Ernst-Friedrich Germar and heir legacy modern zoological science

Biographical essay about the life and scientific attainment well-known entomologist, Professor of Mineralogy, Ernst-Friedrich Germar for the first time on the territory of Ukraine is presented. His collection of insects, known as Gubner collection, was gathered during 1810-1840 and includes original typical material of Homoptera and Heteroptera representatives. Part of this unique collection is kept in the Zoological Museum of the Ivan Franko LNU and contains more than four thousand exhibits, including 42 typical samples and specimens from the Fiber, Esholts and Förster collections. For the long time this collection was thought irretrievably lost during the Second World War.
